Heart Work 101: Faith & Family Workshop @ FBCW
Thu, 07 Jun 2012 18:00:00 +0000

NOTE: The date of the workshop has been changed. It was originally scheduled for January, but we rescheduled to better meet the needs of potential attendees.

Changing the heart is a powerful way to help children make lasting changes. God is ultimately the one to change a person's heart but the day-to-day work of parenting is often used by God to do the long-term work. Parents are using strategies right now for giving instructions, correcting kids, addressing bad attitudes, and setting limits, but some of those parents are frustrated because their techniques are often counterproductive. Increased anger, frustration, and yelling, for example dominate many homes. Heart Work 101 is full of practical strategies to help parents so they don't have to rely on anger to solve problems. Children are all different and a cookie-cutter approach to parenting doesn't work. This workshop gives parents tools that they can use as they work on the heart of each of their kids.

The Big 3: Faith & Family Workshop @ FBCW
Thu, 08 Mar 2012 18:00:00 +0000

What is the most important organization in our lives? The companies where we work? The schools where our children learn? The churches where we worship? As important as all of these are, none compares to our families. It is the single most relevant, impactful and precious institution in society, and yet, as an organization it is largely ignored.

What I mean is that compared to the other organizations in our lives, we spend almost no time doing any formal planning or strategizing about how to run our families. Even those of us who take part in strategic planning at work or school or church somehow feel content to live our home lives in a reactive, unplanned way. Exceptions to this include our finances, where we spend time thinking about savings and investments and budgets. But when it comes to the management of our daily lives and activities and priorities, we tend to wing it, reacting to issues and problems as they come up without any context or plan.

And the cost of winging it is huge. Chaos, stress, regret, missed opportunities, frayed relationships. All of these are byproducts of lives lived without context and clarity.

Does that mean that families should, or can, completely eliminate stress and chaos from their lives? Absolutely not. Even if it were possible - and it isn't - part of the fun of living in a family is the joy of the unknown. To run a family like a well-oiled machine would be to drain the passion and adventure out of it all. But there is plenty a family can do to drastically reduce unwanted chaos and live with greater context, clarity and purpose. In fact, there are three basic questions that every family needs to answer.

The Three Big Questions

Question 1: What makes your family unique?

Question 2: What is your family's top priority - rallying cry - right now?

Question #3: How are we going to talk about and use the answers to these questions?

These are the three big questions that will provide a simple context to help families live with more purpose, clarity and meaning. The model simple and practical because families have even less time and tolerance for bureaucracy and protocol than companies do.

If we just take a little bit of time to explicitly decide what we stand for, what we want, and how we're going to go about succeeding as a family, I truly believe we'll be more successful as families. The most important organization in your life deserves that, doesn't it?

Heart of Anger: Faith & Family Workshop @ FBCW
Thu, 10 May 2012 18:00:00 +0000

The Heart of Anger is a workshop that contains some rather newly developed applications of the timeless wisdom revealed in God's Word. This is in contrast to the plethora of so called "Christian" books on child training which contain more pagan worldly pyschology then exhortation from complete Holy Scripture. Heart of Anger gives parents a biblically-based approach to dealing with one of the issues affecting many families today. The workshop deals with anger's root causes, offering corrective advice from a biblical perspective.

24/7 Dad: Faith & Family Workshop @ FBCW
Fri, 13 Apr 2012 18:00:00 +0000

"He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers..." Malachi 4:6

Take a moment and reflect on the men in your church that are highly involved, responsible, and committed fathers. Are these characteristics consistent with their approach to church? In other words, are they highly involved, responsible, and committed Christians? Churches that nurture and equip men to be great fathers have a tremendous advantage over churches that don't, especially when it comes to impacting the community for Christ. Most often, the man who understands the importance of being an involved father also understands the importance of being an involved Christian. The inverse is also true. Now imagine what your church could accomplish if you increased the number of highly involved, responsible, and committed fathers.

Fathers make a unique and invaluable contribution to the well-being of children. God placed the responsibility on raising up spiritual champions on the family, of which the father is to be the head. 24/7 Dad uses Scripture and biblically based blueprints to help men become the leaders God desires them to be.

24/7 Dad is a workshop (possibly more than one day) designed to do just that through "outreach" and "inreach" components. Outreach is accomplished by providing culturally relevant resources designed to resonate with people who do not yet know Jesus. 24/7 Dad is safe learning environment that builds upon participants stored knowledge and past experiences.

The Blessing: Faith & Family Workshop @ FBCW
Thu, 09 Feb 2012 18:00:00 +0000

Every child longs for one specific gift from their parents. "The blessing" is unconditional love and approval which comes from a healthy relationship with ones parents. This gift is what sets us up for life, and it is the blessing that determines our emotional well-being as adults. Receiving the blessing sets us up for a deep sense of self-worth and positivity. Not receiving the blessing can lead to emotional troubles and difficult relationships.

In The Blessing workshop we will share how parents can make the blessing a bigger part of their families and prepare their children for a positive future. The book also goes beyond parenting and helps those who have missed out on the blessing "reverse the curse" and find blessing in their own lives.

The workshop is divided into four sections - why the blessing is so important, understanding the blessing, when the blessing doesn't happen and living the blessing challenge. Each chapter contains short, easy-to-read chapters that will help the reader connect the subject matter to their own lives and families. The book is filled with content from real-life stories, to ideas, questions and exercises to links for online resources.

The Blessing is made up of five essential elements: meaningful touch, a spoken message, attaching high value, picturing a special future, and an active commitment. As parents we may already be incorporating these things into our relationships with our children, but reading this book will show you exactly how important they are. It will show you the Biblical basis for them and help encourage and guide you to live out the blessing every single day.
